Description
Scope and content: Scattered issues of the West Nashville Digest community newspaper, starting with volume 1 no. 3 (Nov. 1988) to volume 6 no. 3 (June 1993), with numerous gaps in between. The paper covered the west side of Nashville, Tenn. including the communities of Sylvan Park, West Nashville, Richland Park, and the thoroughfares of Charlotte Pike, White Bridge Road, and the region of Richland Creek. Multiple pages were routinely devoted to local politics, including regular columns by Councilman for Metro District 24 Horace Johns; State Senator Douglas Henry, Jr.; and State Legislator for District 56, Beth Halteman (who would continue her political career for many decades, later becoming the first female Speaker of the House of the General Assembly, Beth Harwell), and others. Contents also typically include detailed coverage of school news, covering both public and private schools, from the high school to elementary levels; churches; business profiles and advertisements; personal profiles of residents; advice columns from doctors; coverage of community events, including the West Nashville Expo; news and activities of clubs and neighborhood organizations; and frequent columns about the history of the area, especially the early settlement period and Indians.
