Description
Scope and content: Includes various material relating to Davidson County cemeteries, primarily concerning individual cemetery histories and operations; memorial services or commemorative activities; rules and regulations; advertising materials; brochures (including historical walking tours); and similar items. A few lists of interments are included for: Davidson County Pauper's Cemetery (for burials 1952-1972); the removal and reinterment of Confederate soldiers from Nashville City Cemetery to Confederate Circle at Mt. Olivet Cemetery (1865-1869); and a list of burials at Temple Cemetery (1863-1882). Except for these specific cemeteries, the collection does not include any formal records of interments. The collection does, however, contain a few lot ownership certificates. In addition, there are documents concerning damage claims at Mt. Olivet from the Civil War, and memorial observances at Confederate Circle. Documents relating to activities of the Nashville City Cemetery Association and their memorial, commemorative, restoration, fundraising, and advocacy events, are also included in the collection. Quantity of materials in the collection ranges from a single item to several folders. Most folders contain less than ten items, and often only a single item. Some items are photocopies.
